11 kilometers above sea level: which birds fly above all

If for small birds 100-200 meters is already the ultimate dream, then large birds are able to rise to a height of several kilometers. But there are real air aces among them, which were met in heaven by pilots of planes flying at an altitude of more than 7 kilometers. We will talk about these record holders in our review.

Andean Condor, South America

These are large birds of prey, reaching a weight of 15 kilograms. But the solid size does not prevent them from flying perfectly and high. Scientists were able to find out that these birds can rise to a height of 4.6 kilometers.

White Stork, Eurasia, Africa

These are migratory birds that nest on the vast expanses of Eurasia, and fly away to Africa for the winter. At the same time, they rise to a height of 4.9 kilometers.

Mallard, North America and Eurasia

These beautiful plumage ducks are widespread in Eurasia and North America. Usually they fly not very high, within 1.5-2 kilometers, but with the help of special equipment mallards that flew at an altitude of 6.4 kilometers were recorded.

Bearded Man, or Lamb, Eurasia and Africa

These birds nest high in the mountains and live in southern Europe, Turkey, Central Asia and Africa. Individual bearded individuals were recorded at an altitude of 7.3-7.4 kilometers.

Whooper Swan, Eurasia

These birds during their long-distance flights overcome hundreds of kilometers. Usually they make flights at an altitude of 2-3 kilometers, but individual flocks were recorded at an altitude of 8.3 kilometers.

Gray Crane, Eurasia, Northeast Africa

In autumn, these cranes have to travel huge distances from nesting sites to the south. Different groups winter in different places, and just among those gray cranes that fly through the Himalayas, a height record of 10 kilometers was recorded.

African vulture, Africa

This species of birds is considered the highest flying bird in the world. A case of a collision of this bird with an airplane was recorded, while it is noted that the incident occurred at an altitude of 11,277 meters.
